An Over 9000 Figure Guide: S.H.Figuarts Dragon Ball Z (Updated 2013)

Dragonball Z Frieza SagaLast Summer, I posted: “An Over 9000 Figure Guide: S.H.Figuarts Dragon Ball Z”. In it, I showcased every existing release of the poseable + surprisingly affordable Tamashii Nations figure line available for 2012.

Debuting in the U.S. via Bluefin Distribution, S.H. Figuarts are my favorite collectibles of the Dragonball Z franchise. The figures aside, I’m also a big fan of Bluefin Tamashii Nations USA because they are keen on market demand. Should you decide to keep up with their official Facebook Page, they consider fan interest via polls for future figures.

Here is the update on the latest 2013 S.H. Figuarts Dragon Ball Z releases!

Vegeta (ベジータ)

Material(s): ABS, PVC
Original Price: ¥3500 (35.00USD)
Release date: April 2013
Height: 140 mm (5.5 in)

The premiere of Vegeta’s scouter-crushing diorama at San Diego Comic-con 2012 drew such high fan reactions, that it was a definite factor in his being selected as a Tamashii Nations S.H.Figuarts figure. This “normal version” of Vegeta has folded arm parts, four hand parts (including a must-have “scouter crushing” hand). We need Radditz now! Also comes with three changeable face parts, a head with a scouter attached, tail pieces, and a stand with effect accessories.

Frieza – Final Form (フリーザ)

Material(s): ABS, PVC
Original Price: ¥4500 (45.00USD)
Release date: June 2013
Height: 150 mm (5.9 in)

This replica of Frieza’s fourth “true form” captures his expressions from his hard-fought battle with Super Saiyan Goku. Figuarts Frieza includes three different head pieces. My favorite expression featured with this new figure is his smug face. His other faces are a “Death Beam” hurling, and a wounded expression.  Also included are interchangeable feet, attack effect, and an earthy display stand.

Piccolo (ピッコロ)

Material(s): ABS, PVC
Original Price: ¥3500 (35.00USD)
Release date: July 18, 2013
Height: 170 mm (6.6 in)

For many collectors, this 2013 Comic-Con release of Piccolo is a welcome sight. It is a pseudo re-release in that the manga version was introduced back in November 2009–the first of the S.H. Figuarts DBZ line. With the original figure holding a steep secondhand price point of $80-100, this anime re-color is a bargain at a mere $40. Piccolo will be available exclusively at the Comic-Con International 2013 Bluefin Tamashii Nations booth.

Krillin (クリリン)

Material(s): ABS, PVC
Original Price: ¥3800 (38.00USD)
Release date: October, 2013
Height: 140 mm (5.5 in)

Krillin will be available as a Tamashii Web Shop Limited Edition this Autumn. He includes 6 exchangeable left/right hands, 3 different faces (super-serious, fight-channeling, and smiling), and a “Destructo Disk” special effect piece. While the sculptors did a good job of translating his face to 3d, if this Krillin figure looks a bit “off” to you, it is because his eyes have been painted in white. To me, this is a small complaint with his multiple face options.

I’m wagering that Android 18 will be the next release after Krillin. Perhaps some time in December.

  1. I actually just ordered this Vegeta figure. I’ve been waiting a long time for a Vegeta figure that actually looked like him. Totally having Christopher Sabat sign it next time i bump into him.
