Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings – A Comprehensive Figure Guide

Based on real historical figures in the Sengoku Jidai era of feudal Japan, Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings (aka Devil Kings) is a blast. Bringing a unique style epitomic to Capcom, these hotblooded, shonen-crazed samurai make me smile. While the anime is hardly a documentary, I would love to add some of these memorable characters to my figure collection:

Sengoku Basara Zacca PAP Trading Figures

Manufacturer: Zacca PAP
Price: ¥3000/$35USD (per set of 5)

Although Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings the animated series debuted in 2009, these gashapon figures by Zacca P.A.P. featured a pretty good assortment of characters from what was then Sengoku Basara the hit PS2 game. Collectors desiring the whole set may have to be persistent, as the bulk-boxed sets from online retailers are randomly packed.

Date Masamune (伊達 政宗) – Kotobukiya

Manufacturer: Kotobukiya (コトブキヤ)
Price: ¥4600/$55USD
Release Dates: September 2007, August 2009
Material: PVC
Height: 20 cm (7.8 in) Date Masamune Kotobukiya figure

The sculpt of of the face really captures the attitude of Masamune. An extra head is included in case you want to pose him with his helm. Also, the detail put into the armor is impressive. What sealed the deal for me on this being a fun figure is that the base included with the figure (not the same as the image above) is equipped with speakers. Date Masamune says six different phrases from Sengoku Basara 2 featuring his seiyuu, Kazuya Nakai‘s voice. Takes 2 AA batteries.

Sanada Yukimura (真田幸村) – Kotobukiya

Manufacturer: Kotobukiya (コトブキヤ)
Price: ¥4600/$55USD
Release Dates: October 2007, August 2009
Material: PVC
Height: 20 cm (7.8 in)

Sanada Yukimura Kotobukiya Figure

This figure from the same line, and is to the same scale as the Date Masamune above. Like Masamune, Yukimura can also talk.

Chosokabe Motochika (長宗我部元親) – Kotobukiya

Chosokabe Motochika talking figure

This figure is my favorite of the Sengoku Basara 2 Kotobukiya figures. I’m partial to the dual awesomeness of Motochika that is samurai-pirate. Apparently, other fans agree. While the other two figures in this collection currently sell for twice their initial release price, it would be miraculous to find this figure under $300USD.

These figures are the cutest things! For their size and detail, they remind me of nendoroid petites. I like how some of them have swirly, angry eyes. The secret figures in each are rumored to be a golden version of the regular characters, but I still don’t know what all of them look like.

Power Shop Limited White Costume Revoltechs – Kaiyodo

Manufacturer: Kaiyodo (海洋堂)
Price: ¥2400/$28USD
Release Date: January 2010
Materials: ABS, PVC
Height: 14 cm (5.5 in)

These exclusive figures were Power Shop Limited White Costume versions of Sanada Yukimura and Date Masamune. Though they were later released in their normal colors, this isn’t a bad look for them. Revoltechs are similar to action figures in that they are ready to be posed in many fun fighting stances. However,  they aren’t very good gifts for young children, because their joints are more fragile. Alternate hands, faces, and an effects base are included with Sengoku Basara Revoltechs.

These figures are a game-prize item from Sega. Despite their size, the detail level is pretty unbelievable, hence the large views. Both Masamune and Yukimura can hold their weapons. The shape of their stands allows them to face him off in epic battle! I’ve seen these figures running at around $40USD each, not including international shippingo_O

Sengoku Basara Nendoroids – Phat Company

Manufacturer: Phat Company (ファット・カンパニー)
Price: ¥3400/$40USD
Release Date: April 2012
Materials: ABS, PVC
Height: 10 cm (4 in)sengokubasaranendoroid

Yukimura and Masamune can fight it out while looking deadly & super-cute.
I love Nendoroids because they come with many facial expressions so I can make Date scowl if he loses. These figures are recent enough that they can be found close to original retail price.

Elegant Warlord Collection 1 Trading Figures – Capcom

Manufacturer: Capcom (カプコン)
Price: ¥3400/$40USD
Release Date: April 2012
Materials: ABS, PVC
Height: 5 cm (2 in)11eleganttradingfigures

This set comes with seven normal trading figures: Date Masamune, Sanada Yukimura, Ishida Mitsunari, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Maeda Keiji, Mouri Motonari, and Chousokabe Motochika. Also, there are special versions of Date Masamune you can acquire.

1.) A white clothing version is included if purchased from a physical store.

2.) If you buy from Animate (in-store or online) a special Masamune dressed in hakama is available.

3.) Purchasing the figures from Dengekiya will get you a Mame Sengoku Basara version of Masamune.

Due to the annoyance of acquiring every Date Masamune figure, I predict it will be very easy to snag the influx of unwanted extra trading figures that will find their way onto online auction sites.
